Hi my name is Noel Byas

I am a mostly self taught Dublin based potter.

My love affair with clay began back in 2016 after taking a short week long course in a local pottery studio. I fell in love with the whole process of making beautiful objects from such a natural material, I was immediately hooked.

After searching out a space where I could continue to learn and improve, I attended night classes at Trinity arts workshops where I worked away on a regular basis and pretty much spent all of my spare time teaching myself from Youtube and in practice ( a lot of practice!)

I've since started to rent a studio space where I continue to make all my work.

My background is hospitality, an industry which I have worked in for the past 20 years and continue to do so, but my passion is ceramics. There is nothing I enjoy more than sitting down at the wheel and throwing pots.

My work is all handmade, either on the potter's wheel or hand-built using the coil and slab technique. A lot of my work is hand-carved to give interesting texture and all made with a stoneware clay body. I'm inspired by the surroundings in the city where I live -  be it bark on a tree, the shape of a chimney pot or a building. I even sometimes incorporate into my work found branches and seed heads I may come across on my walks about the city in the Phoenix Park or along the Grand Canal.

Thank you for taking the time to come to my site and feel free to contact me about any questions you might have on my work
